...And 53 lbs later we are one step closer to naming the Biggest Loser. Yes, our field of 9 lost a total of 53 pounds this week, many of our contestants had big losses this week, while a handful failed to live up to expectation. The game turned to ugly game-playing that epitomizes my disdain for the show. We saw a honorable, hard-working wife and mother sent home while 3 self-centered, self-serving jerks remain. Seriously, if I wanted fake drama and immaturity I would just flip over to The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.
At any rate, there were some inspiring moments in the show. One of the activities this week involved doing activities that are outside of the comfort zone (climbing up to a platform 35 feet in the air & using fabric drapes as a fitness activity--ie. Cirque de Soleil). I know what it's like to climb 6 feet up a ladder to grab something off the roof of the house, so I too was shaking when Phil & Coleen climbed up 35 feet and stood on top of a platform with nothing to hold onto! Overcoming an obstacle like that seems so minute, but really it can be a life-changing experience and show you that you truly can conquer anything!
Another motivator this week was the 6-week 'check-up' with the doc. If you recall, at the beginning of the show each contestant went through a battery of tests and were told what their 'biological age' (cardiac age) was, essentially measuring how well their heart was functioning.
- Michelle (26) started with a biological age of 41, she is now 34.
- Renee (46) started with a biological age of 66, she is now 44--younger than her actual age!
- Brady (37) started with a biological age of 72, he is now 43, which he highlighted with pointing out that he couldn't last 5 minutes at 2.5mph when he arrived and is now running 6.0mph for 30 straight minutes.
- Amy C (26) started with a biological age of 47, she is now 34.
- Coleen (24) started with a biological age of 55 (older than her dad!), she is now 30.
- Heba has lost 38 lbs of fat (which is significant because she had only lost 34 lbs at that point, meaning she had put on 4 lbs of muscle!)
A challenge was presented where the contestants where tested in balance...the reward being videos from home. Vicky stated that it 'just isn't worth it'...really? Really Vicky, seeing your kids isn't worth it to you? Excuse me, but I'm just going to say what 90% of people must be thinking, Vicky, you are a heartless bitch! The joke was on the blue team, who gave up much too easily, when it turned out the 'videos from home' were actually video conferences!
Yet Vicky and Brady continued with their manipulating ways and assured that they would be sending Amy P home. I am fairly certain that Brady did some massive water loading this week. He had only a 3 lb loss, and after having a small loss (for him) last week of only 6 lbs, I fully expected him to lose around 12 lbs. It's not a rule, but water loading should be unacceptable and grounds for dismissal!

Amy P. was sent home after she suffered what can only be explained as an unequitable loss (when the scale does not reflect the effort for the week). You know over time, things will balance out, you may be down less this week and more next...when you yourself suffer an unequitable loss keep in mind the big picture.
Amy P. went home and va-va-va-voom! Yoozers! WOW-zers! Amy you look amazing (and a great hair-cut to boot!). Amy has gone from wearing a size 20 to a size 8...a size 8--wow! And she is now horseback riding with her kids, something she would never had attempted before (as she joked, mostly because she would fear for the horse!). Good job Amy, and also way to go keeping your dignity and self-respect, your children have a mother who they can certainly be proud of!
