June Appell, whose amazing 125+ weight was was recently featured here on LOST 100 shared some insight with me that REALLY resonated. While she was on her weight loss journey she created some simple rules for herself, one of which was I will not treat myself like a garbage can.
Such a simple statement, yet think how often we (read: Jennifer & hopefully a bunch of other people so I don't feel like too much of a dumb ass...) do this:
a. finish the left over food from the kids (oh--little Johnny hardly touched his mac 'n cheese, his apple juice, his _____) hmmm do we ever eat their leftover vegies? When was the last time your inner voice said, "how can I let the lima beans go to waste-I must do my duty and eat them!"???
b. cake batter, brownie batter, cupcake batter, cookie batter--i literally stopped all baking because sometimes I couldn't resist licking the spoon (and then double, triple dipping it--I guess no one will ever eat something I bring to a party again!).
c. while cooking you test the food. yes, professional chefs do test the food. have you seen the testing spoon? it's smaller than a teaspoon. they are not using your grandmother's 3 cup ladle!
d. and i'll just add this one in for shits and giggles (and the occasional male who reads this)--if you have ever been dubbed "the cleaner" when out to dinner with your buddies OR you ever considered opening a restaurant called Lick Your Plate where the customer gets their meal free for licking their plate clean....you may have a MAJOR problem. Not that I know anyone like or anything, mind you (well, maybe hubby circa 1996) :-)
Seriously, what other ways do you treat your body like a garbage can? And what strategies do you have to avoid this? Or, do you struggle so much that maybe another reader can offer some ideas or help. Share your comments, opinions, questions, insights below!
